Workspace Roles
Every member of a shared workspace has a role that controls what they can do. Roles form a ladder from most to least capable.
| Role | Can do |
|---|---|
| Owner | Full control, including transferring ownership and trashing the workspace. Exactly one per workspace. |
| Admin | Manage members, invitations, and content. |
| Editor | Read and edit all content in the workspace. |
| Commenter | Read content and leave comments or suggestions. |
| Viewer | Read-only. A viewer doesn't use a seat. |
Seats
Every role except viewer counts as a seat. Viewers never count. Seats matter for per-seat team plans; see Team billing and seats.
Changing a member's role
Admins and owners change roles in Workspace settings → Members (open Workspace settings from the user menu, the person icon at the top right) by picking a new role from the dropdown next to a member. The owner's role can only change through an ownership transfer (see below).
Transferring ownership
There is always exactly one owner. From Workspace settings → Danger zone, the owner clicks Transfer ownership, picks the New owner from the active members, and types the workspace name to confirm. The previous owner becomes an admin. This is the only way to change who the owner is.
