How to Read and Review Your Book in Reading Mode

Reading Mode lets you read your book in a clean, distraction-free view, like an e-reader inside WriteinaClick. It's ideal for reviewing your manuscript, catching flow issues, and experiencing your story as a reader would.

Plan availability

You can open any of your books in Reading Mode on every plan. Reading a chapter or the whole book aloud needs Premium or Pro. See Plans & billing.

What Is Reading Mode?

Reading Mode strips away the Write toolbar and sidebars to show only your text. You get:

  • Focused reading - No editing controls, just your prose
  • Three views - Book (page spreads), Chapter (one chapter at a time), or Continuous (the whole book in one scroll)
  • Easy navigation - Jump between chapters and sections
  • Search - Find text anywhere in your book

Use it when you want to read through a draft, share a preview, or simply enjoy your work without the clutter of the writing chrome.

How to Access Reading Mode

  1. Open the book in Write.
  2. Open the File menu and choose Reader Mode.
  3. Your book opens in reading view. To go back, click Write in the top navigation.

You can also open it from Publish: click Open the reader.

Use the Book, Chapter, and Continuous buttons in the reader toolbar to switch views. The reader remembers your choice for each book.

Table of Contents Navigation

Click the Table of Contents button in the reader toolbar to open the chapter list. Use it to:

  • Jump to any chapter - Click a chapter to go directly there
  • See structure - Chapters are listed in order, with their act when the book has more than one
  • See where you are - The chapter you are reading is highlighted

The table of contents is always one click away, so you can move around quickly without scrolling through the entire manuscript.

Search Within Book

Use the search bar in Reading Mode to find text anywhere in your book:

  1. Click the Search button in the reader toolbar.
  2. Type your search term and run the search.
  3. A counter shows how many matches were found across the book, or No matches found.
  4. Use the up and down arrows to move between matches.

Search helps you find repeated phrases, character names, or specific passages when reviewing your manuscript.
