WriteinaClick Interface Overview: Home, Book Path, and Write

This page tours the main areas of the web app so you can find your way around quickly. For the ideas behind the layout, see A Home for Authors and The Path for Your Book.

Across the top of the app:

  • Logo / Home: Your shelf, continue-writing hero, and momentum.
  • Book selector: Switch the active book (Research, Write, Edit, and Publish all use this book).
  • Book path - Home, Research, Write, Edit and Publish for the active book.
  • Book settings: Utility for metadata, voice, series, goals, and more (not a step on the path).
  • Author site - Your public author page. See Author Site.
  • Notification bell - Mentions, replies, announcements, and finished checks such as proofreading.
  • Jobs menu (clipboard icon) - Exports, imports and other long-running work, with a download when a file is ready. See Notifications & Jobs.
  • User menu - Settings, Workspace settings, help, and sign out.

Home

Home is where you pick up the book again:

  • Greeting and light progress (streaks, words, shelf).
  • A continue-writing hero with the cover and primary next step.
  • Your shelf of books: open one, or start a new book.
  • Optional Robin spark and referral invite when available.

From Home you jump into Write (or Research / Publish) for the book you choose.

Research

Open Research for Robin chat in research mode, research history, and a Story Hub panel so ideas can land in worlds, characters, places, and notes. See Research.

Write

Write is the drafting destination. The layout typically includes:

  • Acts and chapters for the active book.
  • Reorder by dragging when the book structure allows.
  • Word counts per chapter.

Writing canvas

  • Chapter title and navigation (previous / next, chapter selector).
  • Chapter vs. Book view: single-chapter focus or multi-chapter document.
  • Word counts for chapter and book.
  • Formatting tools and spell check for the canvas.
  • Ask Robin from Write when you want manuscript-aware help.

This is where you type. Prefer "open Write" when you mean this destination; "editor" in other pages means the canvas itself.

Right rail panels

  • Panels open one at a time beside the canvas - Robin, Notes, Reader Pulse, and The November Room: a scheduled write-in with other writers, with its countdown, roster, and chat. On a narrow screen the room becomes a drawer at the bottom of the canvas.

See Write, Formatting and Sprint Rooms.

Edit

Edit is a dedicated proofing surface. Pick a chapter or the whole book, start a proof run, watch progress, and work through suggestions. Links to Reader Pulse and Version History when you need a wider view. See Edit.

Publish

Publish is where the book leaves the desk: export EPUB, PDF, Word or Plain text; open Reader; share with beta readers and collect feedback. Some packaging and distribution options are still arriving, marked in the product and described in Coming for Your Book. See Publish.

Book settings

From Book settings you configure title, cover, language, genres, writing voice, series, goals, momentum, and freeze options. See Book Settings.

Background job notifications

Long-running work such as exports and imports continues in the background. The Jobs menu (clipboard icon in the top bar) shows progress and a Download button when a file is ready. You do not need to stay on one page while a job runs.
