How to Create Your First Book in WriteinaClick

Creating a new book is the first step toward bringing your story to life. This guide walks you through setup and into Write.

Your first book

Your very first book is made during the short setup after you sign up. See Sign up. Use the steps below for every book after that.

Creating a new book from Home

  1. On Home, click the Start a new book tile on the shelf.
  2. Choose how to start:
    • Guide me - a short questionnaire that builds a chapter map, coaching notes under each chapter, and Story Hub prompts (you still write the prose).
    • I know what I'm doing - the standard create form.
    • Surprise Me - Robin drafts a starting structure for you (Premium and Pro plans). See Robin book generation.
  3. On the create form, fill in Book Title, Author Name, Language, Book Type and Main Genre. A Description is optional and helps Robin suggest things that fit your book. More options holds extras such as a cover image.
  4. Click Create Book.

Your new book becomes the active book and opens in Write.

Understanding acts and chapters

Acts

Acts group chapters into major sections. Most books use a single narrative act; the app only emphasizes act labels when you have two or more narrative acts. Optional prologue and epilogue chapters pin to the top and bottom.

Chapters

Chapters live inside acts. Add and reorder them from the Write sidebar as you build the manuscript.

Start writing

  1. Select the book with the book selector (or open it from the Home shelf).
  2. Open Write on the book path.
  3. If you have no chapters yet, click New Chapter at the bottom of the Table of Contents.
  4. Click a chapter in the table of contents and start typing. Work saves automatically.

Switch between Chapter view and Book view with the two small buttons at the right of the chapter title bar (Chapter View and Book View - All Chapters when you hover them) when you want single-chapter focus or a multi-chapter document.
