How to Set Up a Writing Voice Profile for Robin Assistance

Highly recommended

Setting up a voice profile is the single most impactful thing you can do to get great results from Robin. Take a few minutes to do this before you start writing. It makes a big difference.

A voice profile tells Robin how you write - your audience, tone, and style. Without one, Robin's suggestions are generic. With a good voice profile, what Robin drafts and suggests sounds more like you.

Create a Voice Profile

  1. Open Book settings for your book (in the top navigation, or File > Book Settings in Write).
  2. Go to the Voice section and choose New Voice (or open your library from the Voices link in that section).
  3. Under Voice Details, give your profile a Name - something descriptive like "Literary Fiction", "Fast-Paced Thriller", or just "My Style".
  4. Fill in Description, Target Audience / Reading Age, Style and Tone.
  5. Click Create Voice.

The more detail you provide, the better Robin understands your voice. You can also manage voices from the Voices library (in Write, Tools > Voices).

Add Writing Samples

Add samples of your writing under Writing Samples to strengthen the profile. Paste or type a passage, pick a Category (such as Narrative Prose or Dialogue-Heavy), and click Add Sample. Robin uses these samples to match your style.

  • Use passages you're proud of: published work, polished drafts, or sections that represent your ideal style.
  • More samples lead to a more accurate profile. Each sample works best at 700 to 5,000 words.

Attach the Voice to Your Book

Once your voice profile is ready, assign it to your book:

  1. Select the book with the book selector (or open it from Home).
  2. Open Book settings.
  3. In the Voice section, choose your profile under Narrative Voice.
  4. Click Save.

Now Robin uses your voice profile for audience, tone, and style when they draft or suggest text for this book. Robin never changes your manuscript on their own; you decide what goes in.

You can create multiple voice profiles for different projects or genres, and change the assigned profile at any time.
