WriteinaClick FAQ: Common Questions Answered

Answers to the most common questions about WriteinaClick, organized by topic. Can't find your answer? Check Troubleshooting or open the user menu (top right) and choose Report an issue.

Account Issues

How do I create an account?

Go to the app and choose one of the available sign-in providers (for example Continue with Google). A short setup then turns your idea into your first book. See Sign up.

Can I change my email address?

Not directly, but our support team can help. Reach out with Report an issue in the user menu and we'll work it out with you.

How do I delete my account?

Open Settings from the user menu, go to Danger zone, and choose Delete account.... To confirm, you type your account email. Your account is permanently deleted after 30 days; sign back in within those 30 days to restore everything.

Finding your way

What is Home, Research, Write, Edit, and Publish?

Those are the main destinations around a book: the book path. Home is your shelf. Research, Write, Edit, and Publish work on the book you have selected. See The Path for Your Book and A Home for Authors.

Where do I research?

Open Research with a book selected. You get Robin in research mode and access to Story Hub. Details: Research.

Where do I write my manuscript?

Write. That is where you draft chapters on the writing canvas. Details: Write.

What is the difference between Write and Edit?

Write is drafting. Edit is proofing and polish (spelling, grammar, style passes) on a chapter or the whole book. Details: Edit.

Where are Voices and Story Hub?

Assign and manage a writing voice from Book settings. Open Story Hub from Research or from the sidebar while you are in Write. See Book Settings and Story Hub.

Where do I export or share a draft?

Publish: exports, Reader, and beta sharing that are live today. Longer packaging and distribution work is described only as coming soon in Coming for Your Book. Details: Publish.

Writing and Editing

Does WriteinaClick auto-save my work?

Yes. Your work is saved automatically as you type, so you never need to press Save. While you write, a version is saved about every 5 minutes when the text has changed, and you can save one yourself any time, so you can go back to a previous draft in version history. We keep our own backups of your work as well.

Can I write offline?

On the web, WriteinaClick expects a stable connection. For offline writing, use the mobile app. See Offline Mode.

How do I add chapters?

In Write, use the New Chapter button at the bottom of the Table of Contents in the left sidebar. File → New → Chapter does the same thing.

New chapters are added at the end of your book, not where you are currently writing. To place one earlier, add it and then drag it into position in the Table of Contents, and the chapters after it renumber themselves. See Chapters.

How do I put a chapter in the middle, or split one chapter into two?

Add a chapter, drag it into place in the Table of Contents, then cut the text from the original chapter and paste it into the new one. There is no split-at-the-cursor command today. See Break One Chapter Into Two.

How do I rename a chapter?

Click the chapter title at the top of the writing canvas (the title itself opens your chapter list), then choose Rename chapter..., the first item in that menu. It renames the chapter you currently have open. See Chapters.

Why is my chapter numbered wrong, or not renumbering?

A new chapter takes the next number after the highest in the whole book, so it can arrive higher than you expect. And any chapter whose title begins with the word "Chapter" keeps that title exactly as typed and stops being numbered automatically. This is common in imported books. See Chapter numbering.

How do I delete a book or chapter?

Items are first moved to Trash, where you can restore or permanently delete them. See Trash for details.

What's the difference between Chapter mode and Book mode?

Chapter mode -- Work on one chapter at a time in Write. Switching chapters loads that chapter's content.

Book mode -- Work on multiple chapters in one view in Write. Navigate between chapters without leaving the document. Choose whichever helps you focus.

Robin Features

What can Robin do?

Robin can chat about your story, suggest edits that you accept or decline, proofread for grammar and style in Edit, and match your voice when you use voice profiles. Robin never changes your manuscript on their own. Robin understands your book's structure to give relevant feedback.

Is my content used to train AI?

Your manuscript and private data are not used to train public models. See the privacy policy for details.

How do I get better Robin's suggestions?

The most important thing you can do is fill out your voice profile. Robin works hardest to preserve and match your unique writing voice -- your tone, pacing, POV, and style. The more detail and writing samples you provide, the better Robin understands how you write.

Beyond that:

  • Be specific in your requests (e.g., "make this more suspenseful" instead of "improve this").
  • Assign a voice profile to your book so all Robin features use it consistently.

Robin suggestion doesn't fit my style. What can I do?

Reject the suggestion and try rephrasing your request. Most importantly, refine your voice profile -- add more writing samples and detail so Robin better understands your style. The richer your voice profile, the more Robin's output will sound like you.

Import and Export

What file formats can I import?

DOCX, DOC, PDF, EPUB, RTF, ODT, MOBI and AZW3, up to 50 MB. Plain text and Markdown files are not accepted. Every import creates a new book. Scrivener projects can be imported as ZIP files. See Importing Your Manuscript for full details.

What formats can I export to?

PDF, DOCX, EPUB, MOBI, AZW3, TXT, and Markdown. See Exporting Your Book for the full list and step-by-step instructions.

My import failed or looks wrong. What should I do?

Check that the file isn't corrupted and uses a supported format. Clean, well-structured files (e.g., DOCX with clear headings) import best. If it still fails, try exporting from your source app in a different format and import that.

How long does export take?

Exports run in the background. Short books may finish in seconds; longer ones can take a few minutes. When the file is ready, a Download button appears in the Jobs menu (clipboard icon in the top bar).

General App Questions

Which browsers are supported?

Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge (recent versions). See Troubleshooting for recommended browsers.

Does WriteinaClick work on mobile?

Yes. There is a native iOS and Android app with the same account, books, and book path (Home · Research · Write · Edit · Publish). Start with the Mobile docs. The web app is built for desktop browsers; for phones and tablets, prefer the native app over a mobile browser.

How do I get help?

Open the user menu (top right) for Help & onboarding, Report an issue and Documentation, or ask Robin how to do something from the same menu. For technical issues, see Troubleshooting.

Where can I suggest features or report bugs?

Use Report an issue in the user menu. For bugs, include what you were doing, what happened, and your browser/device so the team can investigate.
