Ink & Rewards
Ink is WriteinaClick's reward currency, counted in Inkdrops. You earn Ink in return for the writing you do: hitting your daily goal, keeping a streak alive, and inviting friends who write with you. You then spend it in the Ink store on perks and cosmetics.
Ink is for motivation and fun. It can't be bought with money and it can't be cashed out. You can spend it on a few extras with Robin (a Robin Boost or a Readiness Check), and on perks and flair.
You'll find everything in one place: open Settings → Ink & Rewards.
What is Ink?
Think of Ink as a thank-you for building a writing habit. Every time you make real progress, you earn a few Inkdrops. They add up in your balance, and you can put them toward small extras whenever you like.
Your Ink balance is yours across every workspace you write in. It follows you, the writer, not any single project or team.
In the Ink & Rewards settings tab you can see:
- Your balance: current Inkdrops, plus lifetime earned and lifetime spent.
- Today: your progress toward today's writing goal and your current streak.
- Invite friends: your personal referral link and how your invites are doing.
- Ink store: what you can spend Ink on.
- Ink history: a running list of everything you've earned and spent.
How to earn Ink
There are four main ways to earn Inkdrops.
1. Hit your daily writing goal
Each day you have a writing goal: a word target for the day. By default the app suggests one from your recent writing rhythm. To choose your own, click Set your daily goal on the Today card, enter your Words per day (at least 50), and click Save goal. Once you've set one, the button reads Edit daily goal, and Use suggested switches you back. The first time you reach your goal on a given day, you earn +10 Ink.
The Today card shows a progress ring that fills as you write, so you always know how close you are. You only earn the daily-goal reward once per day, and your daily total words count across every book and workspace you write in.
2. Keep a writing streak
Writing on consecutive days builds a streak. When your streak first reaches a milestone, you earn a one-time bonus on top of your daily reward:
| Streak milestone | Bonus |
|---|---|
| 7 days in a row | +30 Ink |
| 30 days in a row | +150 Ink |
| 100 days in a row | +500 Ink |
The Today card tells you how many more days until your next streak bonus. If a day slips by, you have a one-day grace, and a streak freeze from the Ink store can protect a longer break (see below). Even when the consecutive count starts fresh, your writing days stay with you: the app shows how many of the last 90 days you wrote, so restarting always builds on what you've already done.
3. Write for an hour
Write for a total of one hour in a day, breaks included, and you earn +25 Ink, once a day. The Today card shows how close you are.
4. Invite a friend
Share your referral link with a fellow writer. When they join through it and start writing, you both earn Ink. See The referral program below.
Note: You can earn up to 600 Ink in a single day from all sources combined, to keep things fair. In normal day-to-day writing you'll never bump into it.
The Ink store
The Ink store is where you spend the Inkdrops you've earned. Your live balance shows at the top, and each item shows its price. If you don't have enough Ink for something yet, the button simply says Need more Ink until you do.
What you can spend Ink on:
- Robin Boost (100 Ink): adds 5% to this month's allowance with Robin. It only appears if your plan has a monthly allowance, and there's a monthly limit on how many you can redeem. When you reach it, the button says More next month.
- Readiness Check (150 Ink): one readiness check on a chapter, up to 5 a month. It's offered on the Free plan only, because paid plans already include readiness checks.
- Streak freeze: protects your writing streak for one missed day. They stack, so you can keep a few on hand for when life gets busy. Buy them as often as you like.
- Streak freeze 3-pack: three streak freezes at a discount, so a hectic week never breaks your run.
- Export theme pack: premium export themes for a polished, professional-looking manuscript. A one-time unlock, yours to keep.
- Golden quill flair: a small golden-quill badge on your profile, a quiet mark of a dedicated writer.
- More themes and flair: editor themes (Midnight Parchment, Typewriter), Inkwell and Constellation flair, a foil edge cover frame, and packs for your author site and sharing.
One-time unlocks (perks and cosmetics) show as Owned once you've bought them. Consumables like streak freezes show how many you have left.
The referral program
Inviting a friend rewards both of you.
In the Invite friends, earn Ink card you'll find your personal referral link. Copy it or use the Share button to send it however you like.
Here's how the rewards work:
- Your friend gets +50 Ink to start as a welcome bonus when they join through your link.
- You earn +50 Ink once they begin writing.
- You earn a larger +500 Ink bonus if they later upgrade to a paid plan. This bonus is paid for up to 10 friends.
The same card shows a simple summary of how your invites are going (how many friends you've invited, how many are writing, and how many have upgraded) so you can see your invites turn into real, active writers.
A few things to know
- Ink is earned, not bought. There's no way to purchase Inkdrops; you earn them by writing and inviting friends.
- Ink stays in WriteinaClick. It can't be converted to money. The only Robin extras it buys are the Robin Boost and the Readiness Check in the store.
- Your balance follows you. Ink lives with your account across every workspace, so it's always the same balance wherever you write.
- Everything is automatic. Streaks and rewards are tracked for you. The daily goal is suggested for you, and you can set your own on the Today card.
