How to Restore a Previous Version of Your Chapter
Restore a chapter to an earlier version when you've overwritten something by mistake or want to bring back a previous draft.
How to Restore a Previous Version
- Open the chapter you want to restore in Write.
- Click Versions in the Write toolbar and choose View Chapter History.
- Click the version you want to restore to preview it.
- Click Restore This Version.
- In the Restore Previous Version? dialog, click Restore Version. The content is replaced with that version.
Your current version is replaced by the selected one. The version you had before restoring is still in history, so you can restore back to it if needed.
Automatic Backup Before Restore
Before restoring, WriteinaClick creates a backup of your current version. That means:
- Your current draft is saved as a new version in history
- It appears in the list marked Before revert, and you can return to it by restoring that version
- Nothing is permanently lost
This safety net lets you restore with confidence.
Preview Before Restoring
To avoid surprises:
- Click the version you're considering to preview it.
- Read through the content to confirm it's what you want.
- Use Compare Versions to see exactly what will change.
- Then choose Restore This Version when you're sure.
Previewing helps you avoid restoring the wrong version or losing recent work by mistake.
Best Practices for Version Management
- Check timestamps - Restore the version from the right date and time.
- Compare first - Use the diff view to see the impact of restoring.
- Note milestones - When you finish a major revision, save a version manually with Save Version Manually so it is easy to find later.
- Don't panic - If you restore by accident, use Version History again to restore back to your previous state.
Version History is there to support experimentation. Write freely, and use restore when you need to step back.
