How to Chat With Robin About Your Story

Robin chat panel lets you have context-aware conversations about your book. The assistant knows your chapters, characters, and plot, so you can ask for help with structure, character development, style, and more.

Opening the Chat Panel

In Write, click the Robin icon (a speech bubble) at the top of the icon strip on the right edge of the page. Once open, you can start typing your questions or requests. The panel stays available while you write so you can switch between writing and chatting as needed.

A chat starts in Robin Mode: advice only, no edits. If you want Robin to suggest changes inside your chapter, click + beside the message box and choose Edit Mode. See Editing with Robin.

Types of Questions You Can Ask

Robin can help with many aspects of your writing:

Plot and Structure

  • "How can I make this chapter flow better?"
  • "What plot holes might readers notice?"
  • "Suggest ways to raise tension in this chapter"

Character Development

  • "Is this character's motivation clear?"
  • "How can I show this character's growth?"
  • "Does this dialogue fit each character's voice?"

Style and Feedback

  • "Is my pacing too fast here?"
  • "How can I improve the opening of this chapter?"
  • "Does this passage show or tell too much?"

Deleted Content

  • "What did I delete recently?"
  • "Find my deleted chapters"
  • "What's in my trash?"

Robin can look through your Trash and show you what you've deleted, with content previews to help you decide what to restore.

You can ask open-ended questions or request specific feedback. Robin responds based on the content you're working on.

Context-Aware Conversations

Robin has access to your book content. They can reference:

  • Chapters -- Structure, content, and flow
  • Characters -- Names, roles, and relationships
  • Plot -- Story arcs and events

Because Robin understands your project, you don't need to paste long excerpts. You can refer to "this chapter" or "the protagonist" and get relevant answers.

Multiple Conversations

You can keep separate conversations for different topics or drafts. Open the More menu in the chat panel header and choose New chat to start a fresh one, or Conversation history to go back to an earlier one. Each conversation keeps its own history, so you can switch between brainstorming, revision, and character questions without losing context.

Chapter-Specific vs Book-Wide Queries

  • Chapter-specific -- Ask about the chapter you have open, or select a passage first, for detailed feedback on that section
  • Book-wide -- Ask about the whole manuscript for structure, consistency, and overall flow

Say which scope you mean in your question. Robin works from the chapter you have open and can look across your other chapters when you ask about the whole book.

Robin Skills

You can hand Robin a reusable behavior, like a beta reader, a continuity editor, or a tough questioner, and keep that lens for a whole conversation. Open the + menu beside the message box and choose Skills. The skill locks once you send your first message; to switch, start a new chat. A chat with a skill stays talk-only, even in Edit Mode.
