How to Analyze Your Writing Style
Write does not have a separate style analysis panel. To check your style, ask Robin in the chat. Robin reads the chapter you have open and can run writing checks on it, then tells you what stood out in plain language, pointing at the passages behind each finding.
Asking Robin about your style
- Open a chapter in Write.
- Open the Robin chat panel from the icon strip on the right edge of the page.
- Ask a specific question, for example:
- "Which words do I repeat most in this chapter?"
- "Where does the pacing drag?"
- "How readable is this chapter? Are my sentences too long?"
- "Which passages tell instead of show?"
- "Does this chapter still sound like me?"
Robin answers from your actual text, so each finding points to a place in your chapter you can go and look at.
A guided pass: Manuscript Health Check
For a fuller review, start a new chat, click + beside the message box, choose Skills, and pick Manuscript Health Check. Robin runs the checks quietly and walks you through the one or two things that matter most, instead of handing you a table of numbers. See Robin Book Skills.
Tips
- Run it at the end of a drafting session rather than during. Stopping to fix every word can break your flow.
- Focus on content words. Nouns, verbs, and adjectives are the most useful to vary. High counts of common connecting words are normal.
- Use it alongside proofreading. Robin's style checks cover word variety and flow; Proofreading covers grammar and spelling.
