How to Use Notifications and the Jobs Menu
Two icons in the top bar keep you up to date without interrupting your writing: the notification bell for activity from other people and from WriteinaClick, and the Jobs menu for work that takes a while to finish, such as imports and exports.
Notifications
Click the bell icon (Notifications) in the top bar. A badge on the bell shows how many notifications you have not read yet.
The list shows your most recent notifications, newest first, each with how long ago it arrived. Unread ones are highlighted with a dot. They include:
- Mentions, replies, and comment threads being resolved or reopened.
- Suggestions being made, accepted, or rejected.
- A book being frozen or unfrozen.
- Uploads finishing or failing.
- Announcements from the WriteinaClick team (see What's New).
Click a notification to mark it read and go to what it is about. Click Mark all read to clear every unread notification at once. When there is nothing new, the list says You're all caught up.
To choose which emails you receive, see Preferences.
The Jobs menu
Imports, exports and other long-running work run in the background, so you can keep writing while they finish. Click the clipboard icon (Jobs menu) in the top bar to see them.
- Jobs are grouped by day (Today, Yesterday, then the date), each with the time it last changed.
- A running job shows its progress. Click Cancel to stop it.
- When an export finishes, click the Download button (it names the file) to save it.
- When a book import finishes, click View Book to open it.
- If an import finished but some text may be missing, the job says so. Hover over the message to read it in full.
When nothing has run yet, the menu says No jobs.
