Workspaces Overview

A workspace is the home for everything you write in WriteinaClick. Books, acts, chapters, story hub entries, voices, notes, comments, billing, and member access: all of it lives inside one workspace at a time.

The two types

WriteinaClick has exactly two kinds of workspaces, and they behave differently on purpose.

Personal workspace

Every account gets one, automatically, the moment you sign up. It's named after you ("Your Name's Workspace" by default). It cannot be renamed, trashed, or shared with other people. It's the private sandbox where most authors do most of their work.

Shared workspace

Created by you when you want to write, edit, or review a book together with other people: a co-author, an editor, a writing group, or a small team. Shared workspaces have members and roles, which you manage from Workspace settings on the web. You create a shared workspace on the web, and you don't need a paid plan to do it.

You can belong to as many shared workspaces as you like. Switching between them is one click on the web and one tap on mobile, and the entire app re-scopes to whatever workspace is active.

Why workspaces exist

Three reasons.

  1. Privacy. Your personal manuscripts stay separate from anything you collaborate on. Joining a shared workspace never exposes your personal books, and leaving one never takes any of your private work with it.
  2. Collaboration. Members of a shared workspace can be given exactly the access they need: full editor, commenter only, or read-only viewer.
  3. Plans. Each workspace has its own plan and its own monthly Robin allowance. A plan bought for one workspace does not unlock features in another.

What's next

Where to do it

  • On the web app, the workspace switcher is in the user menu (the person icon at the top right), under Account. Create workspace is at the bottom of the switcher. See Web → Workspaces.
  • On the mobile app, tap the Workspace card on the Account tab to switch workspaces. Creating, leaving, and inviting happen on the web. See Mobile → Workspaces.
