Guest Reviewer Links
Sometimes you want feedback from someone who doesn't need an account, doesn't need ongoing access, and definitely shouldn't take up a seat. Guest reviewer links are made for exactly that.
How they work
The owner or any admin of the workspace can create a link for one book. Guest links work in your personal workspace too, where you are the owner. Each link has one of three access levels:
- Read only: the guest can read the book and nothing else.
- Can comment: the guest can read and leave notes in the margin.
- Can suggest edits: the guest can read, leave notes, and propose wording. You accept or reject each suggestion, and you make any change in Write yourself.
Every link expires. You choose how long it lasts, from 1 to 365 days. Once it expires, the link stops working.
Guests open the link in a web browser. If the WriteinaClick mobile app is installed, the link may open there instead, where the guest can read the book but not comment or suggest; to do that, they open the link in a web browser. Read only and Can comment links don't need a WriteinaClick account. A guest with a Can suggest edits link signs in to a WriteinaClick account to send suggested wording. Guests never see anything beyond the book you shared with them.
Where to create one
- Web app: all three levels, from the book's Publish step. See Web: Guest Reviewer Links.
- Mobile app: Read only and Comment links, from the book's Book settings under Collaboration, or Comment links from Publish.
The link is shown once when you create it, so copy it straight away. If you lose it, revoke it and create a new one.
What guests can't do
- Change the manuscript.
- See other books in the workspace.
- See the workspace's members or settings.
- See your Story Hub.
Counting
Guests never count against your seats and never appear in your members list. Share with as many beta readers as you want.
Revoking access
Owners and admins can revoke a guest link at any time from the same place they created it. Once revoked, the link stops working immediately, even if it hasn't expired yet.
Security tips
- Don't post guest links publicly unless you're truly happy for anyone to read the book.
- Use the shortest expiration that fits your review window.
- Generate a fresh link per audience (one for beta readers, one for your editor, etc.) so revoking access for one group doesn't lock out the others.
