Billing and Seats
Every workspace has its own plan. Your personal workspace runs on a personal plan (Free, Premium, or Pro). Each shared workspace has a plan of its own, separate from the personal plans of the people in it. A plan belongs to one workspace and never carries over to another.
Which plan a shared workspace is on
A new shared workspace starts with Free plan limits. Everyone working in it gets that plan's limits while they're in it, whatever plan they have in their own personal workspace. For example, a shared workspace on Free holds up to 2 books.
On the web you can buy Premium or Pro while a shared workspace is active. The pricing page warns you first, because the plan then applies to that shared workspace only and not to your personal workspace.
Team, Business, and Enterprise plans
Per-seat team plans can't be bought in the app yet, and there's no billing screen for a workspace. To set up a team plan, contact us with Report an issue in the user menu on the web and we'll help.
What counts as a seat
A seat is any member of a shared workspace whose role is not viewer. Owners, admins, editors, and commenters each use one seat. Viewers never count, however many you have.
On the web, the Invitations tab in Workspace settings shows how many seats are in use, including pending invitations for roles other than viewer. If your workspace has a seat limit, the same tab shows it, and new invitations for roles that use a seat are turned off once the limit is reached. To free a seat, remove a member, switch someone to viewer, or revoke a pending invitation.
Changing roles
Promoting a viewer to commenter (or higher) uses a seat. Changing a member to viewer frees one. The change takes effect immediately.
Personal plans
Your personal workspace runs on a personal plan and never has other members. Upgrading your personal plan never affects any shared workspace you belong to.
There are three personal tiers:
- Free: write and organize your books with the core editor and basic proofreading. A starting allowance of Robin usage applies, and some advanced features are reserved for paid tiers.
- Premium: for everyday writers, with Robin book generation (Surprise Me), Reader mode and Listen (read aloud), research with Robin, the full proofreading suite, Reader Pulse chapter analytics, longer version-history retention, and a larger monthly Robin allowance.
- Pro: for power authors, with everything in Premium plus series tools, no book or voice limits, the longest version-history retention, the highest Robin research and proofreading allowances, and the largest monthly Robin allowance.
You can upgrade or change your personal plan at any time. On the web you pay on a secure payment page. In the mobile app, plans are bought and managed through the App Store or Google Play. Exact prices and current allowances are always shown before you confirm.
