Team Billing and Seats

Billing belongs to a workspace, not to a person. Every shared workspace has its own plan, separate from your personal one.

Which plan a shared workspace is on

A new shared workspace starts on the Free plan. Everyone working in it gets that plan's limits while they're in it, whatever plan they have in their own personal workspace. For example, a shared workspace on Free holds up to 2 books.

To see the plan of a shared workspace, switch to it and open Settings → Billing. The plan shown there is the plan of the active workspace, marked "(shared workspace)".

Team, Business, and Enterprise plans

Per-seat team plans can't be bought in the app yet, and there's no billing screen in Workspace settings. To set up a team plan for your workspace, contact us with Report an issue in the user menu (the person icon, top right) and we'll help.

You can buy Premium or Pro while a shared workspace is active. The pricing page warns you first, because the plan then applies to that shared workspace only and not to your personal workspace. See Plans and Billing.

What a seat is

A seat is any member whose role is not viewer: owners, admins, editors, and commenters each count as one. Viewers never count toward your seat total.

The Invitations tab in Workspace settings shows how many seats are in use, including pending invitations for roles other than viewer. If your workspace has a seat limit, the same tab shows it, and Send invite is turned off for roles that use a seat once the limit is reached. To free a seat, remove a member, switch someone to viewer, or revoke a pending invitation.
