How to Use Focus Mode and Layout Modes
WriteinaClick gives you several ways to control how much of the interface you see while writing, from toggling focus mode to choosing a layout that best fits your workflow. Open these controls from Write.
Focus Mode
Focus mode is a distraction-free writing environment. It hides non-essential UI so you can concentrate on your words.
What is Focus Mode?
Focus mode reduces visual clutter by hiding sidebars, navigation, and other controls. You see mainly your text and the essential editing tools, helping you stay in the flow.
How to Enable and Disable Focus Mode
- Enable - In Write, open the View menu and choose Focus mode.
- Disable - Move the pointer to the top of the screen and click Exit in the bar that appears, or click the small exit hint in the bottom-right corner.
When you exit focus mode, all panels and navigation reappear as before.
What Focus Mode Hides and Shows
Hidden in focus mode:
- The sidebar (Table of Contents)
- The menu bar and the formatting toolbar
- Non-essential buttons and controls
Still visible in focus mode:
- Your text and the editor
- A bar at the top of the screen when you move the pointer there, with your word count and Exit
Your work keeps saving automatically while you write.
Layout Modes
Layout modes control how the editor and Robin chat panel share the available screen space. Unlike focus mode (which hides panels entirely), layout modes let you choose the ratio between writing space and Robin space.
Open the View menu in Write. Under Robin panel, click one of the four layout buttons (hover a button to see its name). You can also drag the left edge of the Robin panel to resize it.
| Mode | Editor / Robin split | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Balanced | Equal split between editor and Robin panel | Actively writing with ongoing Robin conversation |
| Write | Editor takes the majority of the screen | Writing-first sessions with Robin available but smaller |
| Robin | Robin panel takes the majority of the screen | Deep editing or brainstorming sessions where you read more Robin output |
| Solo | Full editor, Robin panel hidden | Pure writing with no Robin panel visible |
Switching layout mode is instant and does not affect your text or Robin conversation history.
