Write on Mobile

Write is the drafting destination on the book path. Tapping Write (or a book on Home) opens the manuscript full-screen so you can draft without the tab bar. It's the same chapter you'd see on the web, shaped for the device in your hand.

The top bar

  • Back (arrow, top-left) saves your work and returns you to Home.
  • Chapter title in the middle. Tap it to open the Chapters list. Long-press it to enter focus mode.
  • Save status shows Saving, Saved, or Will sync when you are offline.
  • Word count badge. Tap it to see the chapter total, book total, this session, and reading time.
  • Actions (...) on the right opens Story Hub, Version History, Book settings, Reader Pulse, Readiness check, and Spell check.

If your book has a word goal, a thin progress bar under the top bar shows how close you are.

Writing

Tap anywhere in the chapter to place the cursor and bring up the keyboard. Type as you would in any other app. Selection works with a tap-and-hold on a word; drag the handles to extend.

There is no Save button. Every change is saved automatically. Online, changes go to your account; offline, they stay on your device and sync when you reconnect. See Offline Mode.

Formatting

The bar above the keyboard has:

  • Body menu: Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3, Blockquote, or back to Body text.
  • List menu: Bulleted list or Numbered list.
  • Ask Robin (speech bubble) and Support.
  • Undo and Redo.

Select text to get a small bubble with Bold, Italic, Underline, Strikethrough, plus Copy, Cut, and Paste.

If a hardware keyboard is connected (especially on iPad), long-form drafting feels close to writing on a laptop.

Switching chapters

  • Tap the chapter title at the top to open the Chapters list, then tap a chapter. On a tablet the list stays open beside your writing.
  • Swipe in from the left edge of the page to go to the next chapter, or in from the right edge to go to the previous one.

Prologue and epilogue chapters pin to the top and bottom when present. See Chapters and Acts.

Focus mode

Long-press the chapter title to hide the top bar and the formatting bar. Tap the very top of the screen to bring them back.

Find and replace

Find and replace is not in the mobile app. Use it in Write on the web. See Find and Replace.

Listening

Listen lives in Reader, not in Write. See Text-to-Speech.

Robin and Story Hub

  • Ask Robin from the speech bubble in the bar above the keyboard. Robin reads the chapter you're in and talks it through with you; Robin never changes your text. Skills (beta reader, continuity, and more) live in the Ask Robin sheet. See Robin Book Skills and the Robin overview.
  • Story Hub from Actions, or pull down from the top of the page. See Story Hub on Mobile.
  • Book settings from Actions: book details, voice, series, goals, and more.
