Frequently Asked Questions

Finding your way

What is Home, Research, Write, Edit, and Publish?

Those are the main destinations around a book: the book path. Home is your shelf. The other tabs work on the book you have open. See The Path for Your Book and A Home for Authors.

Where do I research?

Open the Research tab with a book selected. Details: Research.

Where do I write?

Write: draft chapters on the writing canvas. Details: Write. Write opens full-screen without the bottom tabs so the page stays calm. Tap the Back arrow at the top-left to return to Home.

What is the difference between Write and Edit?

Write is drafting. Edit is proofing and polish. Details: Edit.

Where are Voices and Story Hub?

Manage the book's voice from Book settings (in Write, tap Actions (...) then Book settings, and choose Voice). Open Story Hub from Research or from Actions (...) in Write. See Story Hub.

Where do I export?

Publish: live export and sharing options for your book. Details: Publish. Longer packaging work is described only as coming soon in Coming for Your Book.

Does offline mode cover every tab?

Books you have opened stay available offline for writing and reading. Research, Edit, and Publish need a connection. See Offline Mode.

Does the mobile app cost anything?

The app is free to download. Whether you can use a particular feature depends on the plan attached to the workspace you're working in: the same plan that controls access on the web. See Billing and Seats.

Is the mobile app a separate product?

No. It's the same WriteinaClick service in a native app. The same account, the same books, the same workspaces.

Can I use it on iPad?

Yes. The app supports iPad in any orientation, including Stage Manager and Split View. With a hardware keyboard, the iPad is a great writing device.

Can I use it on an Android tablet?

Yes. The same app installs on Android phones and tablets.

Does it work without an internet connection?

Yes. See Offline Mode. Books you've previously opened are stored on your device and keep working offline.

Can I co-author with someone in real time on mobile?

The mobile app is built for autosaved writing, not for live multi-cursor editing. Real-time co-editing is a web-app feature. Both apps are kept in sync, so you can write on mobile while a co-author writes on the web, and your changes reach them shortly after they sync. If you both change the same passage, the newer text is kept and your phone's version is saved in Version History.

Are Robin features the same on mobile?

Robin chat and skills work the same way on every platform: open Ask Robin from the bar above the keyboard in Write, or chat in Research. Robin talks with you and never changes your text on their own. Some tools are web-only, such as reviewing proofreading suggestions.

Can I import a Scrivener project from mobile?

Yes. On Home, open the book selector at the top, tap Import / Upload, and choose Scrivener. Every import creates a new book.

Can I export from mobile?

Yes. In Publish, tap Export manuscript and choose EPUB, PDF, Word, or Plain text. When the file is ready, your phone's share sheet opens. For MOBI, AZW3, Markdown, or series exports, use the web app.

What happens to my data if I uninstall the app?

Everything that has synced stays in your account: your books, voices, Story Hub, and notes. Re-install, sign in, and they'll be there. Changes that had not synced yet are lost, so before you uninstall, go online and check that Account > Data & sync shows 0 Pending changes.

How do I report a bug or suggest a feature?

Open the Account tab and tap Send feedback. Tell us what you tried, what you expected, and what happened instead.
