Troubleshooting

If something feels off, try the steps below before contacting support. Most issues clear up in seconds.

I can't sign in

  • Check your internet connection.
  • Make sure you're using the same sign-in provider you used originally.
  • Force-close the app and re-open it.
  • If the app says you need to update, follow App Updates.

My book isn't showing up

  • Pull down on Home to trigger a sync.
  • Make sure you're in the right workspace. Books in another workspace don't appear in this list.
  • If you trashed the book, restore it from Account > Data & sync > Trash.

My recent changes aren't on the web

  • Check the offline banner on Home, or the save status next to the chapter title in Write (Will sync means the change is waiting). If you're offline, your changes are kept on your device and sync when you reconnect.
  • Open Account > Data & sync and tap Sync Now, or pull down on Home.
  • Quit and re-open the app.

A chapter looks different on web vs mobile

  • Wait 5-10 seconds and re-open the chapter in Write. Your changes may still be syncing.
  • If both devices changed the same passage, the newer text is kept and the phone's own version is saved in Version History (in Write, tap Actions (...) then Version History). See Offline Mode.

I can't find Research, Edit, or Publish

  • Select a book first (from Home). Those destinations need an active book.
  • They also need an internet connection. Offline, each one shows Connect to the internet to use followed by its name.
  • Write opens full-screen without the bottom tabs. Tap the Back arrow at the top-left to return to Home and the tabs.

A voice note didn't transcribe

  • Check that you have signal. Voice notes need the network to transcribe. Offline recordings transcribe automatically when you reconnect.
  • Re-record in a quieter environment if possible.
  • Recordings shorter than half a second are not saved. Try a longer take.

Text-to-speech sounds odd or won't start

  • Check the device volume.
  • Check your internet connection. Listen needs to be online.
  • Listen needs a Premium or Pro plan.
  • If the chapter has no writing yet, there is nothing to read. The app says This chapter has no passages to listen to.
  • On Android, if audio stops when you lock the screen, turn on notifications for WriteinaClick, and check that Continue audio in background is on under Account > Preferences.

The app feels slow

  • Force-close and re-open it.
  • Check that you have free device storage (the offline cache needs room).
  • Update the app from the App Store / Play Store if an update is available.

Last resort

Sign out and sign back in. This clears the offline copy on this device.

caution

Signing out removes changes that have not synced yet. First go online and check that Account > Data & sync shows 0 Pending changes; tap Sync Now if it doesn't.

If none of this helps, open the Account tab and tap Send feedback, or tap Support in the bar above the keyboard in Write. Include what you were doing, what you expected, and what happened instead.
