Voice Notes
Sometimes the best ideas land while you're walking, driving, or otherwise far from a keyboard. Voice notes let you capture them out loud. The app records what you say, turns it into a written note, and gives the note a title for you.
Voice notes are a mobile-only feature.
Record a voice note from Home
- On Home, tap the Quick capture button (the pen icon at the top, next to the bell). You need at least one book.
- Check which book the note will go to. If you have more than one book, tap Change to pick another.
- Tap Say it out loud and speak. A timer and a live waveform show that it's listening.
- Tap Stop when you're done, or Cancel to throw the clip away.
Tip: long-press the Quick capture button to start recording straight away.
The note is saved as a Free Note in that book's Story Hub, first as New voice note. The transcript and a title arrive in the background, usually within moments, and you can close the app while that happens. Tap View to open the book's notes.
Record inside a note
Open a Chapter Notes or Free Notes entry in Story Hub. Its Voice notes section has a Record button. When the recording is transcribed, the text is added to the note. Recordings, including ones made with Quick capture, are listed in that section, where you can play them back or delete them.
Permissions
The first time you record, the app asks for permission to use your microphone. If you said no, the app shows Microphone access needed; allow microphone access for WriteinaClick in your device settings, then try again.
Editing the transcript
Open the note. The transcribed text is regular note text: tap to edit, fix any words that didn't come through right, or move the idea into another Story Hub category if it deserves to live there.
Privacy
The recording is sent to our service to be transcribed. The note and its recording are kept in your active workspace like any other note. Open the note to play a recording back or delete it from the Voice notes section.
When a recording fails
- A clip shorter than half a second is not saved. The app shows Recording too short.
- If a recording cannot be saved right away, it stays on your device and the app retries.
Offline
You can record offline. The recording is kept on your device and transcribed automatically as soon as you reconnect.
