How to Import a Sudowrite Project Into WriteinaClick

If you draft in Sudowrite, you can bring your project into WriteinaClick as a structured book, with chapters, outline notes, characters, and worldbuilding, without copying each passage by hand.

What you need from Sudowrite

In Sudowrite, open your project, open the menu in the top-right, and choose Export. Either export option works:

  1. Export as 1 doc - One merged Word document. Sudowrite separates each document with a Heading 1, and WriteinaClick uses those headings to split it back into chapters.

  2. Export as N docs - A ZIP with one Word document per document. Upload the ZIP as it is; there is no need to unpack it.

You can also add up to three optional CSV files. In Sudowrite, open Story Bible in the right sidebar and use Export CSV in each section:

  • Outline - becomes notes attached to the matching chapter
  • Characters - becomes Story Hub characters, including custom fields
  • Worldbuilding - settings become Places; lore, magic, events, and tech land in Story Hub grouped by type

Keep the project file and any .csv files together on your computer before you import.

How to import

  1. On Home, click Start a new book to open your books page, then click Import / Upload Book.
  2. Choose Sudowrite.
  3. Add your ZIP or .docx file, plus any Outline, Characters, and Worldbuilding CSV files, then click Continue.
  4. Wait for WriteinaClick to preview your project. You will see the documents, characters, and outline notes it found.
  5. Pick which documents to include and assign each one to an act, then continue.
  6. Fill in the book details (title, language, genre, and an optional series) and click Import from Sudowrite.

The import creates a new book and runs in the background. Nothing is saved until you confirm in the last step. Follow progress in the Jobs menu (the clipboard icon in the top bar).

After import

  • Skim chapter breaks - Automated splitting follows Sudowrite's structure; rename or merge chapters if a boundary landed in the wrong place.
  • Open Story Hub - Characters and worldbuilding entries appear in the matching Story Hub categories when those files were supplied. Outline summaries are attached to their chapters as notes.
  • Proofread formatting - Bold, italics, and section breaks usually survive; unusual layouts may simplify.
